Chromecast not showing up in devices11/20/2023 ![]() I can flush Chrome's list of castable devices which gets the Chromecast to appear again for a short time by opening Chrome's task manager (SHIFT+ESC) and ending the 'Utility: Network Service' process. The reason for Chromecast not working in Windows 10 could be due to incorrect network settings, outdated Chrome browser or problem with the Chromecast Device. Wireshark captures from the affected devices show Chrome's mDNS queries being sent and the Chromecast's replies being received - it's just that Chrome appears to be 'ignoring' them. The Chromecast is consistently available to cast to from both my Android phone and tablet. In every occasion, only casting from Chrome (on Windows, Mac and Linux) is affected. Once I reconnect the internet though, it only takes a few minutes before it drops off the Cast menu. When the internet is disconnected (either by unplugging the modem from the USG router or by simply removing the HFC connection to the modem), the Chromecast works perfectly. The same behaviour is observed back on my Unifi setup. Within a few minutes of connecting my modem to the router however, the Chromecast disappears from the Cast menu. I can cast tabs or my desktop to the Chromecast all day long without issue. (Oddly, I can add my neighbors Razor phone as a device, go figure.) Yes, I know Chrome can see my Chromecast device. You may be experiencing a temporary Internet outage. The Settings applet Add a device fails to find my Chromecast TV therefore, the new Chrome-based Edge browser cant cast to my TV. The Chromecast device appears in the Cast menu and remains there for hours. Step 1: First, check that other devices in the house are able to access the internet and use the Wi-Fi without problems. Removing all of my network gear from the equation, and using only an old D-Link wireless router with no internet connection, with just the Chromecast and my laptop connected via wifi, the issue does not occur. I have found that the issue appears to be caused by my *internet* connection. I've been experiencing similar issues with my Chromecast, and have until now put it down to my complex Unifi network setup (multiple wired and wireless VLANs, mDNS repeater, inter-VLAN firewall, etc).Īfter getting fed up with the intermittent disappearance of the Chromecast in the Chrome 'Cast' menu, I decided to do some troubleshooting.
